caitlin.cass@gmail.comCaitlin has spent most of her life in Chicago and its suburbs drawing pictures and wishing she had been born in 1842. She has always had a fascination for stories with pictures. She published her first book at the tender age of three. Her mother bound it with cardboard and contact paper A few years later, her masterpiece The Night My House Was Bombed by Acorns rose to such acclaim in her second grade class that it was plagiarized in the guise of The Night My House Was Bombed by Snowflakes (which was full of logical fallacies. The entire plot hinged on the fact that snowflakes make noise when they hit rooftops. Caitlin’s pictures were also way better.)
Throughout her formative years Caitlin encountered an evil art teacher, named the characters in her comics after Beatles songs, read books, danced awkwardly with boys, wrote angsty poetry, and ate a lot artificial grape flavoring. In high school she took art classes, played water polo, destroyed her hearing at rock concerts, worked at a picture frame shop and wrote long letters to the Physical Education department so that she could take creative writing instead of gym.
After graduating she went to St. John’s College to study Great Books through the liberal arts. There her thoughts of becoming a literature professor were crushed by an overwhelming fear that she would spend the rest of her life talking about the work of others and never do anything herself. Her drawing became urgent. Upon Graduating again, she went off to grad school at SUNY Buffalo where she is working toward an MFA in studio Art
